A family planning layer for Ottawa recreation
Recreation Steward helps parents answer “what actually works for my family?” across several children, times, facilities and activities. It is a validation prototype and does not replace the City's official systems.
Drop-in schedules come from OttRec
Current drop-in schedules are sourced from the OttRec dataset (ottrec.ca), which republishes City of Ottawa public schedule information daily, with permission. Your browser loads it directly each visit. We show its update date, attribution, schedule changes and any scraping issues it reports.
Independent — not the City
Recreation Steward is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the City of Ottawa. It doesn't use City logos and doesn't speak for the City.
Verify before you go
The City cancels or changes sessions regularly, and holiday hours can overlap regular schedules. Every result links to its City facility page — check it before attending. Fees and age rules aren't in this data; age notes are only taken from words in the activity name.
Registration happens through Register Ottawa
Lessons, camps and courses are registered through Register Ottawa. This prototype doesn't list registered programs, doesn't use undocumented systems, and doesn't monitor spaces.
Your family details stay with you
Family profiles and saved alerts are stored only in this browser. There are no accounts and nothing is sent to a server. Location is never collected — you can narrow results by region instead.
Built to plug in official data
Data access sits behind a small source layer, so a supported City or registration feed could replace or extend the current drop-in source without redesigning the experience.
